Go! SABA-KAIDO T-shirt
The Saba Kaido road transported salted mackerel, tilefish, and other fish from Wakasa in Miketsu Province to the capital, Kyoto.
"Go! SABA-KAIDO" is a project to convey the culture of the Saba Kaido, which has existed for over 1,000 years, to the present day, and to preserve the charm of the road for another 1,000 years.
It is said that there were five main routes along this road, the easternmost being the Tankai Route, which was a boat trip on Lake Biwa, and the westernmost being the Shuzan Kaido, which passed through mountain passes such as Miyama.
The Wakasa Kaido road that runs through the middle of the area is the first designated Japanese Heritage site.
The "Saba Kaido Day! Project Office," which was launched in 2019, has designated the second Sunday of March every year as Saba Kaido Day and promotes the appeal of the Saba Kaido through various events.
