Gamakatsu is one of Japan's most iconic fishing hook and rod manufacturers, founded in 1955 as "Gamakatsu-bari Honpo" in Komoe, Nishiwaki City, Hyogo Prefecture. The name combines "Gama" (from Komoe) with "Katsu" (from the given name of founder Shigekatsu Fujii). The Harima region of its birthplace was historically known as "Harima-ji," documented as a major hook-making center since the 7th century — and the area's "Banshu Needles" have long defined the tradition of Japanese hook craftsmanship. Over seven decades, Gamakatsu has led the industry and built a cult-like global following affectionately known as "Gamalers."
